Michael Schur was inspired to make “A Man On the Inside” after watching the Chilean documentary “The Mole Agent.” Says: “The Mole Agent” documentary is powerful because it makes people feel a remarkably similar feeling regardless of age, ethnicity or gender, and I would describe that feeling in a very reductive way: “I need to call my mom.” We tried to do the same in our show with tone: Does our show fundamentally contribute to that feeling of wanting to call our moms?
Remake of El Agente Topo (2020)
I believe that a lot of novels, by their nature, aim to make you think like, “It was an honor to be part of the lives of these fictional characters.” This show certainly fulfills that goal well.
Kudos to all the departments involved
Even those who come for the mystery and therefore focus less on it should be captivated by the humanity that comes through not only in the script but in the performances of all the actors.
Even though Netflix has been tough on series renewals lately, I hope they fulfill their potential and give them a second season because I hope to see even more of these incredible characters
